Ok, this doesn’t
have much to do with representing accident victims,
but I can’t help myself. I want to pass
on information about some of our great California
roads.
Everybody has their favorite road trip. Some love
the big open highways, others the quiet, twisting
backroads. But whatever, you’re preference,
there’s bound to be something you’ll
enjoy from this selection of favorite NorCal rides.
- Highway 35 (also called Skyline Blvd)
– San Mateo County
This is a beautiful stretch of road between
Hwy 92 and Hwy 84, just east of Woodside on
the Peninsula. You can start the ride on either
end of Hwy 35 where it intersects 92 or 84.
If you can, stop for lunch at Alice's Restaurant
in Sky Londa (at the intersection of 35 and
84) which is one of the best motorcyclist hangouts
in this area. If you want to extend your ride
further, continue south from Sky Londa on either
Hwy 84 (which will eventually take you out to
the coast, and Hwy 1, near San Gregorio) or
– for an extended jaunt – continue
down Hwy 35 (Skyline) which winds through the
Santa Cruz Mountains and ultimately connects
with Hwy 17 just above Santa Cruz.

- Stinson Beach Loop from San Francisco
This is a favorite of many who want to go for
a ride through the redwoods and along the coastline.
Take Hwy 101 north from San Francisco into Marin
County. Take the Sir Francis Drake/San Anselmo
exit, and proceed west on Sir Francis Drake
Blvd. When you reach downtown San Anselmo, turn
left onto Center Blvd (towards Fairfax). Stay
on this road: Center turns briefly into Pacheco
and then back into Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Follow
Sir Francis Drake all the out to the coast through
the beautiful redwoods in Samuel P. Taylor Park
and rolling green hills of West Marin. You eventually
come out at Olema, which is at the junction
of Sir Francis Drake and Hwy 1. This is a great
little town to stop and grab a bite or a cup
of coffee. From Olema, head south on Hwy 1.
This will take you through parts of the Pt.
Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate
National Recreation Area, then past the beachside
towns of Bolinas and Stinson Beach. Continue
on Hwy 1, which will take you up and over the
southernmost end of Mt. Tamalpias and back to
Hwy 101. The roads are OK -- a little heavily
traveled during weekends -- but a great ride
early in the morning.

- Skaggs Springs Road Run – Geyserville
According to many, this is one of the best rides
in the state. The run from Geyserville to the
coast is about 40 miles, past Lake Sonoma, through
beautiful open farm country and scenic rolling
hills. The route has lots of twisties of varying
degree, with fast sweepers and virtually no
traffic. The general consensus seems to be is
whoever built this road had to have been a motorcycle
rider!! To get there, take Hwy 101 north past
Santa Rosa and Healdsburg to Geyserville. Take
the Canyon Road Exit and turn left onto Hwy
128/Canyon Road. Follow this road about 2 miles
to Dry Creek Road and turn right onto Dry Creek.
After about 4 miles, Dry Creek Road turns into
Stewarts Point/Skaggs Spring Road. Follow this
road all the way out to Hwy 1 and the coast.
To return home, travel down Hwy 1 south. There
are a number of well-marked small country road
connections that will return you to Hwy 101
and San Francisco, but if you just feel like
cruisin’, follow Hwy 1 all the way down
the coast until it reconnects with 101 at Mill
Valley.

- The Big Sur Run
This is one of the most beautiful rides you
will ever take. Definitely a lot of twists and
turns and it’ll take you the better part
of a day… but well worth it. Take Hwy
1 south from Carmel (on the Monterey Peninsula)
and wind your way down the coast through some
of the most beautiful coastal scenery you will
ever see. Renowned landscape painter Francis
McCormas once christened Big Sur, “the
greatest meeting of land and water in the world.”
The 90+ mile ride down Hwy 1 will take you through
the Los Padres National Forest past Big Sur,
Lucia, Gorda, San Simeon & Hearst Castle
and finally Cambria. About 5 miles south of
Cambria, connect with Hwy 46, which will take
to east to Hwy 101 and your ride back home again.

- Highway 25 – I5 Loop, from
Hollister
This trip involves several scenic two lane country
roads and about a 40 mile stretch of Hwy 5.
This ride has some great sites, all through
the San Benito Valley. Start the ride south
on Hwy 25 from Hollister (which is just east
of Watsonville off Hwy 101). Travel approximately
60 miles till you reach the intersection with
Hwy 198. Travel east on Hwy 198 (the road quality
here is excellent) until it connects with Hwy
5. Then take Hwy 5 north (about 40 miles) to
Hwy J1, and follow J1 back west to reconnect
with Hwy 25 just south of Hollister.
